The Ideal Objectives Management System – There Isn’t One
We have had experience with a number of systems (everywhere from spreadsheets to Cloud based solutions).
I’m often asked “which system is best”?
What you need to understand is that:
- No system is perfect
- What is best for one business is not necessarily best for other situations’
In other words, there is no such thing as the ‘ideal Objectives Management System’
What’s best for you depends entirely on your specific situation, needs and budget.
What makes us different is that we have trialled a number of Systems and don’t have a bias towards any one system. For some businesses, a simple spreadsheet on Google Docs works best. For others, a Cloud solution is the go.
Is there anything that is common to all businesses?
In our opinion, there are 2 things that are common to ALL businesses (from sole traders up to 10,000 employees).
- Without the right Objectives to begin with, it doesn’t matter how good the Objectives Management System. Read more on this here.
- The other thing that you MUST do before looking for the best System for your business is to get crystal clear on what you want to achieve from an Objectives Management System. (You could call this the Objectives of your Objectives Management). Read more on this here.
Don’t be fooled by Cloud or software systems that talk about “SMART goals” or “SMART objectives” in their marketing speak. Before you engage with a System, make sure that it includes a formula for ensuring or at least facilitating development of SMART objectives.
